Yvonne was very intelligent and advanced a grade when she was in the 5th grade. She excelled each year and after graduating from Granite High School she decided to take a job thinking she did not want to go to college. After working for a while she realized that school was much easier and enjoyable, so she attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah. After two years she decided to try the work route again. At the age of 36, she decided to go back to school for more formal education. Three years later she received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of Utah. After being given a wonderful scholarship at the University of Chicago she worked hard and earned her Masters of Arts degree. Yvonne wanted to return home to Utah and after 4 years of study and persistence, she received her Ph.D. at the University of Utah.
Following graduation she accepted a teaching position in the Sociology Department at the Merrimack College in New England where she became the Chair of that department. She stayed for 21 years, gaining “tenure status” and loved every minute until she retired in December 2010 to begin her life as a wife and a mother.
On July 28, 2010, at age 64, she married Ralph. Now her life dreams and goals were complete. She had 6 wonderful years with him until he passed away on August 20, 2016.
Yvonne was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings in the Church. She loved teaching both children and adults. One of her favorite callings was serving as the secretary to the Recorder at the Boston Temple.
Yvonne loved music. She played the viola, piano, and guitar. She took guitar lessons from Clive Romney who she adored. (His wife Bonnie is Ralph’s sister.)
Yvonne had a great love for family and the importance of families being Forever! This was her number one priority. With all of her accolades, nothing compared to her love of family.Service Information
