Yuriko Matsuno

June 16, 1916 — March 26, 2015

Yuriko “Yuri” passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at age 98. Yuriko was born June 16, 1916 to Tsurumatsu and Tori Shiozaki in Salt Lake City. She received a degree in nursing from Westminster College. She married Elbert Shigeru Matsuno in San Francisco on June 25, 1939. They returned to Salt Lake City where they raised their children, Herb and Richard (Shigeru and Akira died at birth). She worked at the University of Utah Bookstore until she retired at the age of 72. Yuriko was a very giving woman. She put everyone before herself and will be remembered for her sense of humor, selflessness, work ethic, and grateful attitude. She enjoyed fishing with her family and travelling to her annual family reunion. She loved watching wrestling, soap operas, and Jazz games. She enjoyed going on walks with her husband Elbert and grandson Paul. She is survived by her son Herb (Joyce), grandson Paul (Courtney), great-grandchildren Kellan and Kaliyah, and her sister Mary Miyoko Inouye of Las Vegas, NV. Her husband, Elbert , son Richard Takuo, and her brothers Kenichi Ken, Jungi Jay, and Saburo precede her in death. She always said, “Life has been good to me. I have no regrets.” She will always be remembered. Services will be held for immediate family at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers or koden the family suggest making donations to the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple, 211 West 100 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84101.
