Wilson “Hoskie” Yazzie, age 79, passed away on January 23, 2025, in Continental Divide, New Mexico. He was born on August 7, 1945, in Crownpoint, New Mexico, to Hoskie Yazzie Sr. and Alice Y. Mariano. He married Helen Denice Dearing on March 16, 1968.
Hoskie graduated in 1966 from Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah. He then attended the Technical Engineering Institute School of Specialized Drafting & Design, earning his degree in 1974. He began his career as a professional painter and later returned to New Mexico, where he worked as a lead painter at Gurley Motors until his retirement in 2007.
Hoskie enjoyed riding dirt bikes and had a deep appreciation for his 1963 Chevy Impala. He also had a passion for drawing, especially portraits of Elvis. As a talented painter, his work was even featured in Lowrider magazines.
He is survived by his son, Wilson Lee Yazzie; his daughters, Shantle D. Ramirez and Sabrina L. Aldaco; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Tommy Yazzie, and his sister, Emma Yazzie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Denice Yazzie; his son, Shane Dee Yazzie; his parents, Alice Y. Mariano and Hoskie Yazzie Sr.; and his brother, Van Yazzie.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
