Willmer Hanks Thompson

October 10, 1926 — March 22, 2021

Willmer Hanks Thompson passed away March 22, 2021 at the University of Utah Hospital.  He was born in Green River, Utah on October 10th, 1926 to Rowland Pierce Thompson and Pearl Hanks Thompson.  He graduated from Carbon College in Price Utah.  He married Rhoda Adele Baker and later married the love of his life, Lila Leah Lee.
Willmer joined the US Navy during WWII and served in the submarine corp.  Later he transferred to the US Air Force and became an electronics supervisor for various aircraft.  He retired from the University of Utah electrical facilities department.
Willmer was a life member of the LDS Church and served 14th Ward, now called the Wasatch Hills Ward, as its financial clerk for twenty years.
Along with his wife and family, he enjoyed travelling the world and his country.
He is survived by his wife Lila L. Thompson, daughter Susan T. Sandberg, son in law Stephen Sandberg.
He was awarded a certificate of gratitude and lifetime honorary citizen for service to Salt Lake City by the Mayor.
Willmer descended from the family of Ebenezer Hanks, the founder of Hanksville, Utah; and William Thompson, the founder of Thompson, Utah.
Contributions in honor of Willmer could be made to the local Humane Society of Utah.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00AM at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
