William Scott Shields (Nov. 5, 1949 To June 8, 2022)

Scott Shields, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on June 8, 2022, following
a prolonged illness. He was born in Palo Alto, CA, to Gerald and Marilyn Shields, but
spent most of his life in Utah. Scott was a gentleman, an intellectual, an ally, and a
humanitarian who served on several service trips to Kenya and Peru.
Scott co-founded Universal Business Insurance (UBI) along with his brother, Jeff, and Don
Mayer. He was a long-time member of the Holladay Rotary Club and also served as its
president. In addition to meditation, which was a large part of his life, Scott was a champion
swimmer, an avid skier, sailor and a prolific reader.
Scott will be remembered for his wit, humor and prodigious vocabulary. He had
the gift of finding joy in the darkest of times, while uplifting others. He loved his Lord, family,
friends, and dark chocolate peanut clusters. His family hopes that there are peanut clusters
in heaven.
Scott is survived by his wife, Susan, children Amy Wieloch (Neil), Michael Shields, James
Shields (Danielle) and Mikaele Shields (Bobby), grandchildren Drew and Gage Wieloch,
Keegan Shields and Sophie Shields, and brothers Paul (Robyn) and Jeff (Terel). He was
preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Marilyn Shields, and sister, Susan Shields Dean.
