William Vincent Raines (Bill) passed away peacefully the morning of July 30, 2020 in Ashton, ID where he has lived for the last 22 months. He was born May 29, 1939 in Pulaski, VA to William Howard Raines and Verna Mae Montgomery. Bill attended Pearisburg High School where he met his eternal companion Barbara Ann Meredith. They eloped to Chesterfield, South Carolina and were married September 10, 1957. There were eternally sealed on March 17, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised 2 sons and a daughter, William V Raines, Jr, James Michael Raines and Stephanee Ann Raines. They had many wonderful adventures living in 6 states across the United States during their 57 years of marriage. Bill spent his career in the retail business including 10 years owning his own food brokerage. He was known as the “Jelly Belly Man”. Bill had a great love of Lake Powell, BYU Sports and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family was one of their highest priorities. Bill was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His callings and service over 60 years included, Bishopric Counselor, Seventy, High Council, District Presidency Counselor and a Temple Worker in the Rexburg Temple.
Bill is survived by his children Chuck (Susan), James (Lisa) and Stephanee (Martin), 11 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his sweetheart Barbara Ann Meredith, his parents, William Howard Raines and Verna Mae Montgomery, his in-laws, James Aubrey Meredith and Lucy Smith and a great grandson Gabriel Scott Hinchcliff.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the LDS Humanitarian Fund or a charity of your choice in his name. There will be a graveside service on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 10:00am at Memorial Estates Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights, UT. Social distancing and masks will be required.
