William Nevada Bailey, age 87, Our dear, sweet dad, grandpa, husband, great-grandpa, brother, son, uncle passed away March 29, 2020, in Sandy, Utah, holding the hand of his wife of 67 years. He lost the battle against dementia that slowly twisted and confused his vibrant mind and quickly ravaged his body so he could not fight anymore.
He was born August 23, 1932, in Menan, Idaho to Earl Fleet Bailey and Merle Irene Melquist. He married Marlene Rhoda Marker on April 4, 1953.
Early in his life he served in the Air Force as a commander in the 191st Fighter Bomber Squadron. He was also a camera man for Channel 4 TV. He worked for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad for 18 years as a communications supervisor. He taught electronics at Salt Lake Community College. He worked for Tataka and Best Distributing, coin operating businesses. He made life-long friendships along the way.
William played senior softball with the same team for over 25 years, winning 2 Olympic medals along the way. He loved and adored his softball family.
He loved reruns of MASH, Wheel of Fortune, country classics, great movie quotes, the color orange, the Denver Broncos, photography, family gatherings, Menan, Idaho, pool hall memories, stories, sunsets, purple elephants, Polo cologne, t-shirts, pig Latin, Star Trek, ball games, dance, Coke, hiding cookies in suit pockets, Sunday roast, skiing, showing off, long-winded Thanksgiving Dinner prayers, patriotism and was a supporter of every musical. He championed every grandchild’s and great-grandchild’s accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene; children: Deborah, Brad, Karen (Scott Moffitt), Kyle (Val), and Mike (Kristi); 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Bonnie Reed; and brother, Stan. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Doug Roberts; and one sister, Donna Frazier.
Private family services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery.
