William Mack Hardy

William Mack Hardy, loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, left this existence on May 13, 2017, in Bountiful, Utah, surrounded by his family. Bill was born November 17, 1928 in Springdale, Utah to parents Della Humphries and Alvin Carl Hardy. Raised in the small town of Springdale. He attended high school at Hurricane High School in Hurricane, Utah. He also attended Dixie College for several months prior to his call to serve in the  Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints East Central States Mission in September 1951. After his mission was completed he attended Brigham Young University for approximate six months before joining the Air Force in 1951.
While in the Air Force he was selected to join a group of 20 men who were assigned to college-level training as clerical position at Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, Louisiana. It was here he met Patsy Jean Eason, who he married June 13, 1952 in the LDS Temple in St. George, Utah.
After release from the Air Force, Bill continued his education by returning to Louisiana to complete his pre-dental courses, so that he could apply to Loyola University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the only Mormon admitted to the catholic university, at least during the time he was there. Just before graduation, Bill and Pat welcomed their first child, Alyson. He then went on to complete his internship as a Public Health Dentist in Fort Worth, Texas.
In late 1959, Bill and Pat moved back to Salt Lake City. Their second daugheter, Cindy, was born soon after. They bought their first home in Taylorsville in 1960, where they lived until 1963. He began his dental practice in the Glendale area, later moving to Rose Park, where he worked in three different buildings over the years, all within two blocks of each other. The family moved to Rose Park where they lived until 1972.
Bill was called to serve as Bishop of the LDS Rose Park North Fifth Ward in January 1966. He served in this position until he was called to serve as counselor to the Stake President of the Rose Park North Stake in the Spring of 1969. He served in this position until November 1971, when the family moved to the Holladay area. Later, the family moved to Bountiful, Utah, where Bill lived until his death.
Bill is survived by his wife, Pat; daughters Cindy (Dale) Drees and Alyson Covington; grandchildren Paige, Adam, Dustin, Hannah, and Emma; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers A. Wesley Hardy, DeVon Hardy, and Bruce Hardy, who died in infancy; sister Nellie Joy Hardy Ballard.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Avalon Care Center in Bountiful, Utah for the fine care given to Bill over the last four months, especially Shay, whom he really liked. Also, thanks to Dr. Scott Southworth for all the years of great care he has given to Bill.
The funeral will be at 11:00 on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the LDS 26th Ward Chapel at 200 North 200 West in Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior. Interment will be at the Lakeview Memorial Estates cemetery at 1640 East Lakeview Drive in Bountiful.
