Our Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Friend passed away December 27, 2013. Bill was born to Raymond Erwin Heck and Madeline Irene Cole June 3, 1919 in Bingham, Utah. The family lived in Midvale, Utah where Bill attended Jordan High School. He enjoyed music and played the French horn, the only instrument the school could make available to him. He met and fell head over heels in love with Afton Dalrymple. They married November 2, 1940 and shared 62 years together before Afton passed away September 16, 2003.
Bill served his country in the US Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. While serving he broke his back and lived with that injury the rest of his life. After the war he became a Union Pacific Railroad Engineer. He was a hard worker and said that he had the greatest job in the world. He and Afton enjoyed golfing and would take every opportunity to go with friends for one or more rounds.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, and their second son, Gary L. Heck. He is survived by his remaining sons Ronald R. Heck and Robert E. Heck and his daughter Arlene Heck, their spouses, 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
The services will be held at Memorial Estates, 5850 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, UT. The viewing will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 4th followed by funeral services at 11:00 am. The gathering will then proceed to the Murray City Cemetery at Vine Street and 5600 South for the grave dedication and military honors.
Because of Bill’s love for children the family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to either Primary Children’s Hospital or Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
