William Green

November 30, 1933 — October 23, 2015

Our cherished husband and father Bill, 81, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015 of respiratory failure. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 30, 1933 to Fredrick Green and Otilla Shields Green. Bill attended South High school where he was a member of the basketball team that won the 1952 state championship. He also played football, threw the discus and was named all-around athlete that year. He attended one year at Utah State University on a football and basketball scholarship. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1956 in Journalism.
Bill married his high school sweetheart, Colleen Taylor, August 25, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised five children. Bill spent 5 years in the military as an Air Force pilot. He worked at Hercules as the Director of training operations where he lectured at the pentagon on the 3rd stage minute man missile. He worked at Granite School District as a Public Relations and Associate Personnel Director, retiring in 1994. He served in the National Guard for 20 years retiring as a Colonel.
Many holiday and family get together memories were created at the Midway house which he built. Golfing, boating, tennis, parades, golf cart and lawn mowing rides for the grandkids and card playing were among our favorites.
Bill never missed his daily McDonald’s oatmeal and fruit breakfast while conversing with his friend’s and reading the paper. He and Colleen would then head to the spa to work out, doing it faithfully 5 days a week.
They loved their Palm Springs winter get a way’s, and spent wonderful times traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, children; Kristy (Christopher) Hales, Julie (James) Grant, James (Joann) Green, Melissa (Blaine) Layton, Nanette (Reed) Davis; 20 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jack and grandson, Jesse William Green.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Little Cottonwood 16th Ward, 6350 South Rodeo Ln. (1540 E). A viewing will be held from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the church as well as one hour prior to the services.
