William Everett Sargent, 82, also known as Bill, passed away January 2, 2017 at his home in Bountiful, Utah after a long bout of complications due to diabetes. He was born July 27, 1934 in Red Mountain, CA to Fred Everett and Fanny Amplus Sargent. His father went off to mine gold while Bill was still a young child, and didn’t see him again for 39 years.
He and his mother moved to Joseph, Utah and as a teen, helped train race horses. He spent many summers in Monroe, Utah working on his grandfather’s and uncle’s sheep ranch. In 1945, his family moved to North Salt Lake where he attended school until 1951, then enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17. Shortly after boot camp, he was shipped out to Korea where he saw combat while serving on the USS Plumas County tank landing ship. After his discharge from the Navy, he moved back to Utah where he met LeeAnn Cleverly. They were married February 14, 1958 in Bountiful, Utah and together they raised 4 children.
Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing in the most remote places he could find, and loved sharing his adventures with his family. After a long absence from the church, Bill began a renewal of his faith while watching the examples of others, and reading the Book of Mormon. After he became an active member of the LDS Church, Bill took his young family and were sealed to them on June 2, 1975 in the Salt Lake City Temple. He served in many callings including Bishop, High Councilman, Sunday School President, High Priest Group Leader and others.
He worked in the gasoline industry, developing one of the first electronic readouts for gas pumps. He always continued developing his skills. He was a master electrician, as well as owner of multiple businesses, including Sargent Electric, Petroleum Environmental Services Inc. and Great Basin Electric. He enjoyed the process of inventing and making things better. He always seemed to have a tool in his hand.
He is survived by his wife LeeAnn, Bountiful, UT; children Phillip William (Laura) Sargent, St George, UT; Marvin Neil Sargent, Salt Lake City, UT; Ann (Mike) Mackory, Beaverton, OR; brother, Craig Sargent, Salt Lake and 12 grandchildren: Breck, Danelle (Rick), Andrew (Camille), Evan, Carlee (Jared), Jason, Justin, Brody, Ella, Lillian, Kynan and Bronwyn.
