William “Del” Feltenbarger

June 6, 1940 — January 14, 2019

William Delbert (Del) Feltenbarger, our beloved husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa, passed away at age 78 on January 14th 2019, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with gastric cancer. He was born June 6, 1940 in Welch, Oklahoma to William Riley and Ora Jane (McKenzie) Feltenbarger. He made his way to Texas after high school with a basketball scholarship and later headed to New Mexico to work in the uranium mines. It was there where he met and married the love of his life, Sherlyn Lee Hovey, on June 12, 1961. They later moved to Utah where they raised their family and have lived ever since.
Del truly loved life and was the proclaimed patriarch for not only his own family but for many extended family members as well. He worked for the US Postal Service as one of the state’s top managers and retired at the young age of 55, giving him an amazing opportunity to enjoy life. He loved the mountains and enjoyed many camping, fishing, and hunting trips. He loved family time at “The Cabin”, that he and his wife Sherlyn built by themselves. He enjoyed playing and coaching many different sports. Del was a tremendous bowler, having bowled three perfect games. Trap Shooting, reloading shotgun shells, cutting firewood and watching the Utah Jazz were some of his favorite pastimes but his most favorite pastime, was having a great meal surrounded by his wife, family and friends. He was a positive influence to all and raised and guided many extended family members.
Del is survived by his beautiful wife of 57 years, Sherlyn Feltenbarger, his son Dean Feltenbarger (Roxanne), daughter DeDra Buck (Mark); seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many other extended family members whom he loved very much.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses and CNAs of 3 West at St Mark’s Hospital for their tender care, and to Dr Kim for giving us six additional years with this amazing man.
