Our loving husband, father, and son William (BJ) James Mills unexpectedly passed away on May 3, 2023, at his home in Kearns, Utah. BJ was born on October 14, 1970, in Bountiful, Utah to Vahl Ross Mills and Renee (Stark) Harris.
He attended Timberline High School in Weippe, Idaho, and lived with his special aunt and uncle, Wendell, and Judy Stark in the tiny logging town of Headquarters. He graduated from Woods Cross High School. He joined the Marine Corps in 1990 and was a part of Desert Storm and the Somalian conflict and received a Purple Heart for injuries suffered in Somalia. He was extremely proud of his military service and of being a Marine and achieved the rank of Sergeant. After he was discharged, he joined the Ogden City Police Department. He received two lifesaving medals during his time as a police officer.
BJ had two children by previous marriages; Gage Edward Mills and Jaxson Scott Mills. BJ and his wife, Angie (Burdine) Mills, adopted Angie’s granddaughter Savanna when she was three. BJ was everyone’s friend and never forgot a name. He enjoyed fishing, camping, picking at his banjo, and NASCAR. He had many stories of the adventures he and his best friend, Jeff Anderson shared while living in Headquarters, and always claimed Idaho as his home state. He and Angie took all the kids (and dogs) on vacation to Idaho nearly every year, and had many laughs, smiles, and fond memories of their adventures.
BJ is survived by his wife, parents, children, granddaughter Kalie Sorenson, siblings Steven Mills, Cary Mills, Susie Rogers, many Aunts and Uncles, nephews and nieces, cousins, friends, and his dogs Shadow and Millie. Preceded in death by his Grandparents Vahl and Mary Mills, Grandparents Jim and Aldythe Stark, Uncle Wendell Stark, and Aunt Judy Stark.
Services for BJ will be held Thursday, May 11th, at 12:00 pm, at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah, where a viewing will be held prior, starting at 10:00. Interment will be at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 17111 South Redwood Road, Bluffdale, Utah, at 2:00 pm.
Oorah Marine! We are proud of you and honor your dedication to family and service to our country. You will be greatly missed.Service Information
