Willard Call Mann

May 14, 1921 — January 28, 2016

He Made Us All Happy
The family of Willard Call Mann gathered on January 28 to say their final farewells to him as he returned to his Heavenly home. He was born to William C. and Janet Hoggan Mann on May 14, 1921 in Bountiful, Utah. He was the youngest of 8 and was schooled in Salt Lake City, graduating from West High in 1939. He married Carmen Maxfield in the Salt Lake Temple on May 9, 1942. A few months later he left for military service in the Army Air Force as a radio gunner in a B-17. He flew 35 daylight bombing missions over enemy territory and was a recipient of several honorary medals, including the Purple Heart and the Air Medal. He recently joined with other veterans on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., which was a treasured experience of his senior life. He worked for Western Air Lines for 44 years and retired in 1986 as #1 in seniority. He was known by many as “Mr. Western Air Lines” for his true friendship with those who traveled on his flights. After retirement, he and Carmen served missions in Alaska, the Philippines and for two years they served as Humanitarian Service missionaries in Salt Lake City. Some of his most fulfilling experiences came as a Temple worker in the Jordan River Temple. Of all his many accomplishments in life, Willard considered his greatest to be a loving husband and kind patriarch to his family. He is survived by his wife; five children: Dennis (Kristin, deceased), Michelyn (Jon Burton), Launi Louise (deceased, [Ernie Sillito]), Colleen (Bruce Tkoch), Kelly Court (deceased), Jeanette (Brad Hixson), and Maureen (Paul England); 28 grandchildren; and 87 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 2, at 11:00AM in the LDS Chapel (1540 W l0400 S, South Jordan). Viewings will be held at the same location on Monday 6:00-8:00PM and Tuesday 9:30-10:30AM. Internment at Mountain View Memorial Estates.
We cherish our time and memories with our loving husband, perfect father, and endearing grandfather.
