Wayland Alma Starks

October 17, 1943 — September 21, 2017

Wayland Alma Starks, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully at his home in West Jordan, Utah on September 21, 2017. He was born October 17, 1943 in Pittsburg, Texas to Othar and Grace Starks, the fifth of nine children. Wayland married his sweetheart Dianne Sanders on July 1, 1966 and together they had three sons and a daughter. He served in the Army from 1964-1970.
Wayland was a wonderful father and grandfather. His greatest accomplishments include his grandchildren, he supported them in many of their activities including football, basketball, and 4-H horse shows. He was a loving, giving and positive person with a quick sense of humor. He would do anything for anyone and proved this on countless occasions. Wayland loved spending time at the farm and cabin with his family, and enjoyed camping and side by side adventures.
During Wayland’s lifelong career as an upholsterer, he owned and operated Al’s Custom Upholstery in Midvale for close to 40 years before retiring. His passion for the business led him to buy Zions Upholstery where he continued to work until recently. Wayland truly was a master craftsman in the fading art of furniture upholstering and had a natural talent to create and build exquisite custom furniture.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne of 51 years; children, Shane (Robin), Chad (Chandra), Cody (Shyloh), and Kellie (Linson Terrell); grandchildren, Megan (Ethan Davie), Wyatt, Hailey, Colton, Cooper, Maxx, Emma, CJ, Joeson, Cody, Kasie, Linson Jr., Taeven, Kaeston (Boo Boo); great-grandchild, Skyler; siblings, Joe and Betty Denos, Jim and Lena Bromley, Othar and Carol Starks, Mickie Starks, Jody and Nanette Starks, Paul and Arnette Starks, Johnny and Joan Starks, Don and Sandy Starks, and many nieces and nephews and other family who love him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Will Starks.
