Warren Trulson

July 4, 1943 — January 23, 2022

Warren Irving Trulson, talented musician, music educator, charming father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully departed this earth on January 23rd, 2022, at the age of 78.

Warren was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but he moved with his parents shortly after his birth to Magna, Utah where he grew up. Warren was married to Kathie Knowles from 1967 to 1987. They had five children. Warren later married Jacqueline Dale Huston in 1990 who preceded him in death in 2007.

In 1966, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Music at Weber State University and a Master’s degree from BYU.

Warren’s extraordinary talent and keen focus on music rewarded him a long and varied career doing what he loved most. He played in Utah National Guard’s 23rd Army Band for about 40 years, retiring in 2005. He was a lead saxophonist in The Osmond Band from the late 70’s to early 80s. He was a high school band teacher in the Heber and South Jordan School districts.
In 1986, he released his album “Rising Brine,” a compilation of original jazz-rock fusion songs that he composed. Warren’s contribution to music in his community and the joy he brought through music cannot be overstated. He inspired many young musicians with his music lessons both privately and while teaching band for various public school districts. He played numerous gigs at various venues including music festivals, parties, dances, weddings, bars, and retirement homes. Although his favorite music genre was jazz, Warren could play any type of music on demand from Pop to Latin to Gospel. In recent years he was a vocalist, instrumentalist, and arranger for the Bev Bro Duo with his friend and sweetheart Beverly Frank. They continued to play gigs for as long as his health would allow, and as recently as the summer of 2021.
Warren was many things to many people, but it’s certain that his clever wit and irresistible charm will be missed by all who knew him. We would like to thank all of the attentive nurses and staff at Welcome Home Assisted Living in Bountiful for their care at the end of his life. Preceded in death by his parents Irving and Hope Trulson; and his second wife Jacqueline Dale Huston. Survived by his children Heather (Nate Lothes) Trulson, Natalie (John) Minnick, Aaron (Sandra) Trulson, Emily (James) Parker, and Amanda (Keith) Holland; his sweetheart Beverly Frank and her daughter Susan Dahlstrom; his grandchildren Everett, Severin, Lucas, Alton, Helene, Nila, Desmond, and Jago; as well as his step-children Terry Hansen, Alicia Christensen, and Laura Toffoli.
