Warren Harding

November 23, 1920 — May 5, 2014

Warren Gamaliel (Bud) Harding passed away on May 5, 2014 in Magna, Utah due to natural causes. Bud was born Nov. 23, 1920 in Seattle, Washington to Robert Horace Harding and Hazel Etta Stott. He was named after Warren Gamaliel Harding, the 29th President of the United States, because he was born on the same day as his inaugural. As a boy, Bud was raised in Meadow, Utah and worked as both a farmer and plumber. Bud left the farm and joined the Navy on April 15, 1942, and was honorably discharged in October of 1945. He served on the USS Ticonderoga (CV-14). After leaving the service, he met and married Doris Eileen McClurg. They moved to Downy, CA, where he worked as a plumber, and started the Harding family; having two daughters Pam and Pat. The family then moved back to Meadow, UT around 1953 where he worked as a farmer and plumber, and added two boys and one girl to the Harding family: Kim, Bob, and Hope. Later, they moved to Murray, Utah around 1961. Warren and Doris divorced, however they always remained good friends. Warren also lived in St George, UT for about 5 years. As his health declined he lived with his son, Bobby in West Jordan for 3 years before moving into the Beehive Homes of Magna, Utah where he lived out the rest of his life. Bud had a colorful life and always enjoyed living in the moment. He was a big fan of spaghetti-westerns and was a cowboy at heart. He loved sweets and always had extra on-hand. He left this world having known he was loved by his family who has always remained very close. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were a great joy to him and always made him smile, and in return they always had a smile back. The lessons and wisdom he taught all of us will be handed down for many generations. Preceding him in death were his three sisters: Ruth Dykstra, June Hopper, and Hope Cohen. Survived by children: Pam (Jack) Hunter of St. George UT; Pat (Tim) Olsen of South Jordan, UT; Kim (Ann) Harding of West Valley, UT; Bob (Sharen) Harding of West Jordan, UT; and Hope (Jerry) Bytheway of St. George, UT; 17 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren. A heartfelt ‘thank you’ goes out to the staff of The Beehive Home for taking very good care of him right up to the end. The doctors and nurses at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT deserve a thank you as well as Clint from Superior Home Care & Hospice. All services will be conducted at the Redwood Memorial Mortuary and Cemetery located at 6500 S Redwood Rd, West Jordan, UT (801)969-3456.
