A grand gentleman has left us. He had never said an unkind word. He left a wonderful legacy of love and wisdom. He always knew the right thing to say and his quick wit kept us in stitches. Warren Lynn Gunnarson, 74, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2014. He has suffered from Lewy Body Dementia for the past six years.
He was born on March 23, 1940 in Sacramento California to Bernice Beard Alvord and Virgil Kenneth Gunnarson. He was raised by his stepfather, Myron Alvord. While going to school in Ogden, Utah he played the trombone in orchestras, dance and marching bands. He was an engineer and went on to designing and selling mining machinery for projects around the world and designed life-saving equipment for miners. In his retirement he served as a consultant in mining accident investigations because of his expertise. He was an avid collector of mining memorabilia. He married Carol Greer (later divorced). They have four children Jeffery Lynn Gunnarson, Terri Ann Powell (Danny), Michael Shawn Gunnarson (Andrea), Julie Kai Ewell (James), nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. On February 16, 1978, he married the love of his life Susan H. Nemelka and they began their 37 year romance. Together they raised her four children, Michael Paul Nemelka (Kris), Deborah Ann Spotts (David), Tracy Lee Sullivan (Patrick), Jon Carl Nemelka, and granddaughter Christy, after the death of her mother Debbie. Lynn was their Dad. They have six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Lynn was preceded in death by their loving children Jon Carl, 24, and Deborah, 36, and his brother, Robert Dean Gunnarson. He is survived by his wife Susan, his brother, Neal Gunnarson (Susi), 14 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren.
Special thanks to the loving care givers who so graciously helped Lynn through his last year.
