Walter Lynn Ruoti

June 14, 1955 — January 24, 2022

Walter Lynn Ruoti, our beloved father, completed his mortal sojourn on Monday, January 24, 2022. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Walter Alfred Ruoti and Marrian Hazel Garner on June 14, 1955. At the time of his passing, Walter was 66 years old.
Walter grew up in the heart of Salt Lake City and was a proud alumnus of West High School, Class of 1974. After graduating high school, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Las Vegas, Nevada Mission. Walter was a lifelong believer and follower of Jesus Christ and His restored church. His life of service and devotion has left a lasting impact on his children and their families.
In 1978, Walter enlisted in the United States Navy. He received training in avionics maintenance at Memphis Naval Air Station in Tennessee, specializing as a helicopter engine mechanic. Walter was incredibly proud of his time stationed at Naval Air Station Sigonella, situated in his forefathers’ homeland of Italy. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1982. To pass on his love of the Navy and aircraft, Walter enjoyed watching military television shows and movies with his children. He also frequently took them to visit the Hill Aerospace Museum and attend the air shows hosted at Hill Airforce Base. In particular, he enjoyed watching the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.
After leaving the Navy, Walter worked in various careers, most notably as a land surveyor. He was responsible for surveying much of southern Salt Lake County and Utah County. As he would drive with his children through these regions, he loved to point out the subdivisions he had surveyed.
Walter enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially camping with his sons. He was an avid follower of the BYU and University of Utah athletic programs. He loved attending the BYU football games with his children and was a season pass holder for many years. Walter understood the value of lifelong learning, constantly reading to increase his knowledge and completing many courses at Salt Lake Community College. He was a devoted grandfather who always made time for his grandkids and constantly looked out for their welfare.
Walter is survived by sons Scott (Emily) and Chris (Corinne); brothers Lyle, Mike, Warren, and Tony; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Marrian.
