Walter Lamont Thaxton (Lamont)

Walter Lamont Thaxton (Lamont) passed away peacefully at home on January 19, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born March 30, 1931 in Salt Lake City, UT to Walter Thaxton and Melva May Simons. He served a mission to the East Central States and served in the US Army from 1953-1955. He married Neta Mae Cornia on November 10, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Lamont loved trains, antique cars and Native American Arts and Memorabilia. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping and traveling. Lamont attended Westminster and graduated from the University of Utah. He worked as a surveyor for the UDOT for 23 years.
Lamont is survived by his wife, Neta Thaxton; children: Mark (Cindy), Lanet (Joe) Gomez, Shawna (Kirt) Ashton, Melanie (Dave) Willie, Kevin (Pattie), Brian, Lori (Chuie) Flores, and Dave (Kathleen); 26 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sandra May, daughter Cheralyn and a grandson Trevor.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Crescent 7th Ward, 949 E. 10600 S. Sandy, UT. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm and one hour prior to services at the same location. Interment will be at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Huntsman Cancer Institute or the American Diabetes Association. Funeral Directors: Memorial Holladay~Cottonwood Mortuary.
