Walter Paul Gudat “Opa,” was born February 6, 1930 to August Gudat and Elisabeth Heppner in Bielefeld, Germany. Walter married Hildegard Stalhberg on March 17, 1950. They immigrated to America in 1956 where Walter worked as a machinist, a trade he learned while still in Germany. Walter was co-founder of Bonneville Machine, Inc. where he worked in many different positions from machining to sales. Walter loved his work and his co-workers often called him a perfectionist.
Walter made his home in Sandy, Utah with his family. Walter loved his daughters, Sylvia and Michele, grandsons Nicolas and Marcus, granddaughter, Mikayla, and great granddaughters Taylore and Madison. He always tried to attend their activities, especially Mikayla’s hockey games.
Walter loved playing soccer in his younger years and was an avid golfer later in life. He enjoyed playing with family and friends whenever possible.
Walter was a member of the Good Shepard Lutheran Church, Sandy Utah. Walter loved America and was proud to have become an American citizen.
Walter is survived by his daughters Sylvia (Craig) Jones, Michele (Mike) Dykman, sisters Krista Bojko of Germany, Linde Baker of Salt Lake City, and his brother Elmar (Lynne) Gudat of California. Preceded in death by his wife Hilde Gudat and sister Ilke Balser
Services for Walter will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services.
