The rock of our family, Wallace Ted Eyre Stewart, passed away on August 30, 2014. He was born on July 19, 1938 in Salt Lake City to Theodore Alonzo Stewart and Callie Drewery (Eyre) Stewart, in Salt Lake City. His family relocated to St. George when Wally was nine, and he gained many fond memories of the Utah desert.
The family moved back to the Wasatch Front and bought a huge farm at the Point of the Mountain. Wally worked alongside his father and brother on the farm.
Wally’s life was forever changed when he met Dixie Richmond at a Frost Stop near Provo. The couple married on June 2, 1958 in the Salt Lake temple, and made their home in Draper, where they raised their family. His wife, Dixie, died on September 22, 2001, and he was grateful for the love and support of his children.
He worked at the Utah State Prison for thirty-two years. His tireless work ethic earned him the respect of both coworkers and inmates. He was an avid reader of history especially about U.S. presidents.
As a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wally served in a variety of church callings and in the Jordan River and Draper Temple baptisteries.
Wally married Celestia Whitehead on August 11, 2006.
He is preceded in death by his eternal companion, Dixie Ann Richmond Stewart; his daughter, Susan; his son, Benjamin; and his parents Callie and Theodore.
He is survived by his wife Celestia Oborn Whitehead; his six children: Mark (Cindy) Stewart, Kevin Stewart, Julie (Mitchell) Hirschi, Tina (Michael) McCafferty, Charity (Blake) Clark and Rebecca (Darren) Allen; his brother Dale Stewart; 16 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He also left 12 step-children; 59 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren.
We, his family, want to thank the doctors and nurses at IMC Heart and Lung Center for your compassionate and professional care of Dad.
