Wallace Earl Ward
November 13, 1925 ~ June 17, 2017
Wallace Earl Ward of Murray, Utah passed away on June 17, 2017 in peace and comfort surrounded by his family and loved ones at the age of 91. Wally was born in Salt Lake City to Earl Ostermann Ward and Emma Frieda Paula Porschatis on November 13, 1925.
Wally was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from West High School in 1945, where he was a left-handed pitcher with a good fastball and natural curve ball.
Wally married Shirley Mae Clegg on September 12, 1951 in Elko, Nevada.
Wally held various jobs throughout his life, but worked as the school custodian at Murray High School and Liberty Elementary for 21 years. He was beloved by the faculties and students he worked with.
Wally was an avid outdoorsman and reader who loved nature and animals. He prided himself on his fishing skills, which he frequently put on display at his favorite vacation spot in Island Park, Idaho. One of his hobbies and passions was cars, which he always paid for in cash and kept them in immaculate condition. As a product of the Great Depression, Wally was renowned for his shrewd ability to save money and valued financial self-reliance. He loved spending time with his family, eating at his favorite restaurants, trips to Wendover, giving history lessons from documentaries he read of World War I and II, playing sports, camping and fishing. He made friends easily and was quickly a favorite of those he came into contact with.
Wally loved his family. He is survived by his daughter, Janice Tanner; son-in-law, Randy Tanner; 7 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Shirley (wife), and Lynn (son).
Wally will be missed dearly, but we are thankful for his reunion with those loved ones who have gone before him.
