Virginia Rae Gates

October 6, 1932 — June 3, 2020

Virginia Rae Gates, age 87, passed away on June 3, 2020 at her home in Glendale, Utah. She was born on October 6, 1932 in Boise, Idaho to Arden Koops and Lorena Packer and was later adopted by David & Emily Evans. She married Orvid B. Housley in 1949 (later divorced), Silma C. Chappell in 1961 (later divorced), and Bernell Gates in 1971.
She loved to make quilts, making a quilt for family members and friends for any and every special occasion, wedding dresses, curtains, and crocheting. Anything that could be made with a needle, thread or yarn, you bet Virginia could make it. She often made jewelry, dolls, and stuffed rabbit dolls.
Virginia wrote short stories and won various awards for poetry and songs she had written. She read a lot of books and loved history.
She visited various cemeteries often, liked to go fishing and camping, and liked looking for gold in the mountains, often researching books to get to different areas and mines.
She was a great typist and a hard worker. She had a lot of fulfilling jobs and worked as an accountant for many different companies.
Virginia is survived by her children Orvid Ray Housley and Carolee Wetmore, both of Wilcox, Arizona; sister Wilda (Clair) Mitchell of Bountiful, Utah; and many grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and extended family members.
She is preceded in death by her husband; son Robert K. Chappell; both sets of parents; sister Patricia Hammer; brother DeLoy Koops; and 3 grandsons David Lee Fletcher, John Robert Wetmore, and John John Butterfield.
