Virginia Arlene Herrera, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away at her home in Hurricane, Utah on Sunday, May 26, 2024, after courageously battling ALS for nine years. She was 80 years old.
Arlene was born on June 23, 1943 to John and Alice Velasquez. She married the love of her life, Joe Macedonio Herrera in November 1959, and together they shared 61 years of love, joy, and unwavering support of one another. They were blessed with five children whom she cherished deeply. The unique bond she shared with each of her children will continue to illuminate their path and give them strength in the days ahead as they navigate through the loss of their mother.
Arlene's dedication and hard work spanned 25 years at Parker Hannifin Inc. and over 10 years at Walmart Distribution Center, where she formed lifelong friendships.
In 1998, Arlene and Joe moved to Hurricane, Utah where they built their dream home and embraced retirement. They traveled the world together, built their cabin in Chama, New Mexico and cherished spending time with their family and friends.
Arlene was a woman of profound faith, loving God fiercely and serving him wholeheartedly. Her legacy of love, faith, and resilience will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed.
Arlene is survived by her children: Carmen Herrera, Tim (Leslie) Herrera, Chris (Renee) Herrera, Joe Jr. (Miranda) Herrera, and Lysa Herrera. She is also survived by her siblings: Louisa (Leo) Valdez, Dolores Arnold, Don (Vickie) Velasquez, Jim (Kathy) Velasquez, and Peggy (Clarissa) Velasquez. Arlene was a proud grandmother to 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe M. Herrera, her parents John and Alice Velasquez, and her brother George Torrez.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary. You may visit with the family at a viewing prior to services from 1:00 to 1:45 PM. Interment following services at 3:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Cemetery.
