Violet Jaynes

January 25, 1924 — February 19, 2015

Violet Fern Peterson Jaynes, 91, passed away February 19, 2015, at her residence and home of her daughter, Sherry Lynn and Brad Morrison. She was a part of the vanishing Greatest Generation that amplified giving of oneself for the betterment of others. She gave birth to, raised, nourished, and sacrificed for 10 children.
Violet was born January 25, 1924 in Ogden, Utah to Jonas Lee Peterson and Hilda Charlotte Hansen. Her mother died when she was age 7 and was lovingly raised by her father, older siblings, and grandparents. She attended Ogden schools and was one of the first to attend the new Ogden High School.
Later relocating to California, she married Robert Dee Jaynes, May 15, 1942 in Reno, Nevada. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple, November 9, 1942.
WWII meant long periods apart from the endearing love they shared. And, alone, with two small boys, Blair and Gary, she took hold of these new experiences and they endured the separation, loneliness, and uncertainty of war as Robert flew C-47’s in Europe. Taking care and loving her family was always paramount. Her kindness, patience and love have left a lasting legacy.
The end of the War took the family to various employment in California and Idaho. The passing years added new members to the family. Pleasant Hill, California; Idaho Falls and Rexburg, Idaho; were primary residences. Later employment brought the family to Salt Lake City where, years later, her beloved husband Bob, in which they had an inseparable bond of 69 years, passed in December 2011.
Violet enjoyed reading, poetry, listening to old-time music (40’s), opera, sewing, cooking, and giving to others. Her compassion for others afforded her many positions in various Church callings – especially Cultural Refinement Instructor, but, her callings did not define her life.
As we look back on Violet’s life, her quiet giving, sacrificing, and love to her family would be the framework of her life. We think back, now, on what it must have been like on Sunday mornings getting ready for church! She sacrificed to make each child feel loved. Christmas and birthdays were especially memorable. Though most possessions were lost in the Teton Dam flood on June 5, 1976, she always responded that she did keep her most precious possessions of all – her children.
Thank you, Mother, for your quiet sacrifices for us, your patience, unconditional love, sharing and your acceptance. We love you.
Violet is survived by her children Blair (Karren), Gary (Cindy), Sherry Lynn Morrison (Brad), David, Julie Vivanco, Kathleen Nivens (Mike), Jeanette Anderson (Kent), Stephen (Jill), Mark (Elaine), Rosann Clements (Rick), 63 grandchildren, 118+ great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a brother, Heber Peterson.
Preceding her in death is her husband, Robert Dee Jaynes, parents, 5 siblings and 3 grandchildren.
Viewing and funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 2:00 pm, at Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah, with a viewing beginning at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah.
