Vinzenz Fuerer

April 22, 1945 — March 14, 2021

Vinzenz Fuerer was Born on April 22, 1945 in Zurich Switzerland to Vinzenz and Elisabeth Fuerer. He passed away peacefully on the evening of March 14, 2021 at home, surrounded by family.
Vinzenz grew up in Zurich, Switzerland. He is the 2nd oldest in his family and has 3 sisters.  He completed an apprenticeship as a tool maker for SBB, the Swiss Railroad (for 4 years). He served in the Swiss Army where he was a medic, promoted to captain, and won a medal for his expertise as a pistol sharp shooter. He truly enjoyed serving his country.  He loved skiing and running, he was an athlete and was extremely fast at 800M races.
Vinzenz worked for IBM in Switzerland for 7 years and was a customer service engineer.
Vinzenz met the girl of his dreams, Marla Berrett, while she was serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Zurich, Switzerland. After Marla’s mission Vinz, and Vinz’s sister (Dora Fuerer) who had served as Marla’s mission companion, came on trip to the United States. Vinzenz invited Marla to join them. While on the tour, Vinzenz and Marla fell in love. They were engaged, married and moved to Switzerland in two weeks. They were married September 18, 1976 in the Provo Temple.
They lived in Switzerland for almost 3 years, where their oldest son Robert was born. They moved to Sandy, Utah in 1979 where Vinz and Marla bought their forever home;  Elizabeth, Eric and Christina joined them shortly after.
Vinz continued to work for IBM in Utah as a customer service engineer and retired after 30 years. After Retirement he started working at BD Medical, where he worked as an engineer and a mechanic.
Vinz was a family man! He absolutely loved spending time with his sweetheart, children and grandchildren. He lovingly took care of his mother before he was married and he patiently cared for his wife who suffered from dementia for over 10 years. He was an expert fisherman, and could hike as well as a Swiss mountain goat.  Vince was a skilled mechanic, he could fix any problem on a vehicle or machine or make a new part for a broken one.
Vinz was a man of Christ. He had a deep love and testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel. He took his home teaching and service to others very seriously. He was always looking to help others and was so busy fixing everyone else’s cars that he never had time to fix his own.
Vince was diagnosed with Mesothelioma Sarcoma Cancer, He suffered with incredible pain on a daily basis. He fought the good fight with grace and style for over a year. After Marla passed Vinzenz had three difficult years missing her. We join him in tears of joy as we celebrate his reunion with his sweetheart.
Vinzenz had an incredible sense of humor and was the best story teller. He is survived by his 3 sisters, Margot Fuerer, Irene (Edward) Schmidt, Dora (Christof) Schultz and his 4 wonderful children, Robert (Jennifer) Fuerer, Elizabeth (Andrew) Paras, Eric (Habibi) Fuerer and Christina (Cole) Seifers.
The Fuerer Family expresses gratitude to all you remarkable extended family members, and treasured friends who have supported and loved Vincent throughout his life.
We also thank the dedicated and compassionate medical professionals and care providers who treated and cared for Vinz.
