Vilate Allington Jensen

April 12, 1919 — June 24, 2019

Vilate Allington Jensen was born on April 12, 1919 in Holladay, Utah in the house she grew up in. She was the youngest of 5 living brothers and one sister. She was pampered by all. Some of the chores she had as a young girl were gathering and candling eggs and going to the cellar for bottled fruites. She did not like this chore because of the musty smell and large spiders.
Even as a young girl Vilate had lots of kittens and as everyone knows she loves her two cats very much.
Vilate had a happy childhood doing the things most little girls like to do, like catching water snakes, tying a string around their middles and letting them go. The next summer she would search for the ones that had her marker on.
After graduating from LDS Business College, Vilate meet the love of her life. Joe was a pharmacy clerk and soda jerk at the Holladay Pharmacy. They were married on October 10, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. People talk about their Golden Years but Vilate always said her Golden Years started when she married Joe. Joe passed away in March of 2008. Joe and Vilate had three daughters, one of which passed away in 2017. Vilate loved being a Mother and she was always loving and kind.
The only time Vilate lived outside of Utah was when she moved to California when Joe joined the U.S. Navy. Joe also was attached to the Marine Corp as a Pharmacy Mate. Vilate would jokingly say that her neighbors wondered what was going on when a man in Navy uniform would go into her home and a Marine would leave.
Vilate had several jobs but one of her favorites was in a flower shop. She loved making beautiful flower arrangements. Her talent did not end there. Vilate loved to paint and write.
After retirement Joe and Vilate moved to Washington, Utah where she spent a good part of her time putting together several Family History Books. While in Washington she served in the Member Locator Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 13 years — well into her nineties.
She passed away in her home at Wentworth Coventry, Cottonwood Heights on June 24 2019 where she lived in Independent Living for 8 years, where she made many good friends.  Vilate loved to travel and took many fun vacations with Joe and later with her two daughters and granddaughters.
Vilate has a loving family of 11 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren including her two daughters, Joyce (Jim) Bailey and LaRayne Stuber  (and one “adopted” granddaughter).
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Jensen, daughter Karalee Peterson, son-in-law Thomas Stuber and her 7 siblings.
Our special mom, grandmother and great grandmother will truly be missed by us all.  We know that she is now at peace and that she can now see again.
