It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, friend, and Grandmother “Gramoo,” Vicky Jo Worthen Fisher, who left us on November 19, 2024. Born on September 24, 1951, she lived a life filled with generosity, warmth, and laughter that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.
Vicky met the love of her life, the late Gene Fisher, as the two grew up on the same street. Their relationship became a life-long love while attending Skyline High School. After their marriage in 1971, they built a life dedicated to family and service. Vicky left a career she loved at First Security Bank to support Gene in running their business for nearly 40 years. Gene and Vicky took every opportunity to share their love of camping, fishing, and sports, especially the Trappers and Jazz, with their two boys—Trent and Tyler. Being a mother was Vicky’s ultimate purpose in life. She was happiest when she could take opportunities to support her boys, and they cherished each moment. Vicky never missed a sporting event, concert, or moment (big or small) with her boys; and they took great comfort in looking into the crowd to find her smiling face. As her boys aged, their relationship blossomed into a true friendship; she talked to each son nearly daily, sometimes several times per day. Vicky created a bond with her sons where they always knew they were loved, important, and special.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held many callings through the years in Relief Society, Young Women’s, Primary, Cub Scouts, and many co-callings with Gene in the Boy Scouts Program.
Vicky was quick to laugh and always had a warm hug for all who came through her door. She had a sensitive and sincere heart—she loved deeply and could easily show her emotions through tears of joy. Vicky never met a stranger, only a potential new best friend. She had a unique ability to meet someone for the first time and truly know them on a deep level. She loved to tell stories of new friends she met and always had room for one more. Her ability to recall small, personal details made each person know they were truly special to her.
“Gramoo” was a title bestowed on Vicky by her first grandson, Noah, and she wore this title with honor. To her three grandsons, Gramoo was as a sanctuary where they could be themselves, without judgement, and they loved to share their lives with her. She was proud of Noah’s musical talents and work ethic, Ethan’s hunger for knowledge and artistic ability, and Auden’s sense of humor and athletic ability. She never forgot a birthday, holiday, or special occasion; and she always had a personalized gift each time she saw one of her grandchildren. Her grandchildren were an extension of her heart.
Vicky was a deep lover of dogs, and the many dogs in her lifetime were more than pets; they were her companions and confidants. She took great joy in their antics and loved to share their pictures and stories with all. She rescued many dogs in her lifetime, and we take great comfort in knowing there was a grand reunion at the Rainbow Bridge.
Vicky was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd “Nug” and Jean Worthen, the love of her life, R. Gene Fisher, and her sister Wendy Pickard. Vicky is survived by her children, Trenton (Jenn) and Tyler (Jeff), and by her grandchildren, Noah, Ethan, and Auden. She leaves behind her fur baby, Kenzie, as well as many nieces and nephews, many of which she kept in close contact.
A celebration of Vicky’s life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Latter-day Saints meetinghouse at 3676 West 4700 South, Taylorsville, Utah 84219 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Humane Society of Utah utahhumane.org or the Boy Scouts of America scouting.org in her honor to continue her legacy of compassion, service, and love.
