Vickey Bowman
March 15, 1947 — August 19, 2021
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Vickey Bowman on August 19, 2021 surrounded by family and beloved pets at her home in Lehi, Utah . She was 74 years old and led an extremely full and active life until recently.
Born to parents Carlile P. Simmons and Elsie D. Simmons in Berea, Ohio. Vickey was predeceased by her husband, Wayne Bowman in 2010 and is survived by daughter, Devin Miller. She is also survived by her sister, Carrie Smith (Elijah Smith) and her stepdaughter, Paige Adams (Randy Adams).
From a very young age, Vickey always had a love for animals. She never met a cat or dog that she didn’t like or a horse she couldn’t ride. Her love for animals was innate but she also had amazing empathy for humans as well. It is said that she trained her first horse when she was eleven years old and her skill transcended through several competition levels until she became one of the best horsewomen in the Arabian horse world winning national accolades in several different divisions. She started Silver Lane Stables in 1977 when she, her daughter Devin, and legions of students and parents happily traveled together to Arabian horse shows across the country. Her abilities as a horse trainer are exemplified in the numerous national, regional and local championships won by both she and her students. More importantly though are the work ethic, values and joyous stories and memories left behind for the folks lives that she touched. She was a great mother, horsewoman, teacher and friend.
The service will take place on Saturday, September 4 at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary at 3115 E 800 S Cotton Wood Heights, Utah. Visiting hour is noon-1:00, funeral service at 1:00 and graveside service at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Horsemen’s Distress Fund in her name. A special scholarship is being set up in her honor.
