Vernon Wilde

October 17, 1923 — January 6, 2021

Vernon H Wilde, beloved father and grandfather, died at his home in Payson, Utah on January 6, 2021 at the age of 97. Vernon was born October 17, 1923 in East Millcreek, Salt Lake City, Utah to Harold Wilde and Rhea McMurray. He was raised in Oakley, Utah and spent many happy years there with his siblings LaRue, Dwayne, Delphia, and Lennis (Leonard). Vernon joined the Navy in the spring of 1943 and served on the USS Kasaan Bay until the end of the war. While on leave, he married Ruby Gardner on September 22, 1944, and they had four children: Darwin V., Karol Kaye, Colynn, and Ruth Eileen. They lived in Oakley where he built their home near the Weber River. During this time, he worked as a carpenter alongside his father Harold, and later as a welder and machinist at Brown equipment in Hoytsville Utah. After divorcing, Vernon married Helen Pearl Cox on April 17, 1964. They were later sealed on the Salt Lake Temple on August 2, 1971. Vernon was a loving stepfather to Helen’s four children Renae, Connie, Phillip, and Lynn. Together, they had one son, Troy. They lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming for thirty years, where he worked as a supervisor for Wyott Corporation. In 2000, Vernon and Helen moved to Payson, Utah, where they enjoyed once again being close to family members as well as
many new friends in their neighborhood.
As a young man, Vernon loved fishing, and hunting, and working with his dad Harold. Vernon was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 17, 1933 by his uncle Thomas Wilde. Vernon loved the Gospel, enjoyed serving in the Church, and was a faithful home
teacher. He enjoyed dancing with Helen and camping and fishing and spending time with friends and family. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his hard work, his resourcefulness, and his kindness.
Vernon is survived by children Darwin V (Sarona “Sam”) Wilde, Colynn (Calvin) Samut, Troy (Shannon) Wilde, Connie Barnes Kingrey and Lynn Barnes Freeman; sister Lennis (Leonard) Cuillard; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Helen, parents Harold and Rhea Wilde, siblings LaRue, Dwayne, and Delphia, and children Karol Wilde, Ruth Anderson, ReNae Barnes, and Phillip Barnes. He will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones.
