Vernon Mosley Poynor, the greatest man we ever knew, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 29, 2018. He died of natural causes due to incidents of age. He was 90 years old.
Vern was born on September 30, 1928, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He was the fourth child of Claude Marion and Alice Shepherd Poynor.
Vern was given the best birthday present when he married the love of his life, Barbara Ruth Hoffman, on September 30, 1949. They spent 69 years together and look forward to spending eternity together.
Vern was a faithful member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many callings of which he was proud, one of which was a mission that he served along with his wife to Michias, Maine, where they made lasting friendships.
Everyone who met him loved him. His spirited personality made him known and remembered by many, whether he was umpiring or refereeing a game, hunting (which he loved), plumbing, or attending church, you always knew he was there by his “booming voice”!
He is survived by his wife Barbara, son Michael Vernon Poynor and daughters Chris North (Dave, deceased), Shauna Walters (John, deceased), Sheri Johnson (Mike), Tonya Holder (Marlin), his 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and sister Jackie Rich.
Special thanks to Joe, Alice, and Eva of Hospice of Utah, we couldn’t have done it without you.
