Verna Patricia Olson

Verna Patricia Olson, age 89, died on June 16, 2019, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on December 4, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lawrence A. Young and Louie May Dahl Young.
She married Gordon L. Olson in August, 1949. Verna liked art, crafts and music. She was an animal lover, especially her dog and parakeet. She often spoke about the horse she had while growing up. She was an accomplished artist and horseman and took runner-up for the “Sweetheart” title at the Ute Rangers 5th Annual Horse Show in 1949. Verna enjoyed getting out, traveling and spending time with her sisters. She was a good cook and a supporting, loving mother. She became a Certified Nurses Aide in 1971 and worked in nursing homes and with private clients. She took loving care of both of her parents.
She is survived by 8 children: Carol Olson, Mike Olson, Larry Olson (Silvia), Richard Olson and Daniel Olson; and brother, Paul Young (Jeanne). She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon L. Olson; parents, Lawrence and Louie May Young; siblings: Allen, Marion, Barbara and Carol; and great-granddaughter, Brylee Nicole Olson.
We want to thank the nurses, therapists and aides from Encompass Home Health and Hospice for their care of our mother.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 21, 2019 at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. A viewing will be held from noon till 1:45 PM.
