Verla Nell Powell Timmerman

March 21, 1930 — April 8, 2017

Verla Powell Timmerman, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and neighbor, passed away April 8, 2017 to the waiting arms of her Heavenly Father after suffering for several years with pulmonary fibrosis and diabetes. Verla was born March 21, 1930 in Holladay, Utah. She graduated from Granite High School in the Class of 1948 with her other club members whom she loves and still met with monthly. She attended the University of Utah earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1988. Verla married her sweetheart Robert W. Timmerman Sr. on October 12, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. She became a soldier’s wife for the following 2 years in California where they started their family of six children. Verla was a devout member of the LDS Church, holding many callings from working in Cub Scouts, Primary, Young Women’s and enjoying the position of Relief Society President. She participated with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She served two full time missions with her husband Bob in the years of 1991 to 1993 in the Belgium, Antwerp mission and in 2000 to 2001 at The Family History mission in Salt Lake City. They helped out with the 2002 Winter Olympics as volunteers. Verla most of all enjoyed and loved her family, as she kept family photographs on the wall current. She was passionate about family history and genealogy with over 24,000 names on her main file. She loved the outdoors, walking, fishing, reading, and watching Wheel of Fortune.
Verla is survived by her husband Bob; son’s Randy (Kelli Jensen, dec.), Tom (Leslie), Casey (Ginger); daughter Tina Schreyer (Scott); 10 grandchildren; 14 ½ great grandchildren; brother Ronnie Powell (Afton); sister Nancy Dalton and numerous nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by son Robert W Jr. (Sheila Newman), daughter Terri Ann Lebegue (Breck), her parents Ralph Powell and Zelda Larsen Powell and three brothers Leo, Dale, and Wallace Powell.
Funeral Services will be held on April, 14th at 12:00 noon at the Big Cottonwood Stake Center, 1750 East Spring Lane in Holladay.
Friends and family may call at viewings held on Thursday, April 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Stake Center and Friday April 14, 10:30 to 11:30 am prior to services.
Interment will be held at the Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 South Memory Lane, Holladay, Utah. Funeral Directors: Memorial Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary. Memories may be shared at www.memorialutah.com
