Vera Pauline Cooper

February 23, 1921 — June 16, 2017

Vera Pauline Cooper, age 96 of Salt Lake City, passed away on June 16, 2017. She will be laid to rest on June 23, 2017 along side her first and only love of many years, Ralph B. Cooper.
Vera was born on February 23, 1921 to August Dernovich and Julia Chernich in Tipperary, Iowa. On October 4, 1938 in Greenley, Colorado she married Ralph B. Cooper. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1986.
She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and her faith and her family were her biggest interests. Vera cared for many of her grandchildren in her home where she loved to cook, bake, reading books, care for her yard, and knit. She always enjoyed visits from her friends and she was loved by all who knew her. Vera truly had a heart of gold.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Paul Simmonds of Salt Lake; one sister, Toni Dernovich of California; one grandson: Michael Bell of Salt Lake; two step-grandchildren: Heather Ellison of Springville and Anthony Ekenstam of Spanish Fork; one adopted grandson: her godson JC Forrester of Salt Lake; nine great-grandchildren: Tamara Brown of Eagle Mountain, Cassandra Lopez of California, Justice, Samantha, Nicholas, and Paul Bell of Salt Lake, Desirae Bell of Saint George, Brandi Bell of Arizona, and Sean and Lacey Swegan of California; eleven great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Vera is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents; five brothers: Tommy, Vance, August, Frank, and George; seven sisters: Mary, Eva, Anna, Agnes, Catherine, Julia, and Helen; her son, Ralph B. Cooper Jr; four grandchildren: Cheryl Bell, Robert Bell, David Bell, and Joel Cooper; and her step-granddaughter, Holli Simmonds.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 10:00AM with a viewing held prior at 9:30AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church (3015 East Creek Road, Sandy, UT 84093). Interment will be at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery following the service.
Pallbearers include, Michael Bell, JC Forrester, Ian Stanton, Nicholas Bell, Paul Bell, and Mitchell McMahan.
The family would like to thank all the hospice nurses from Peak Health Care and the medical staff at Sandy Health and Rehab for all the loving care they gave Vera.
