Vera Jordan Atwood

Vera Jordan Atwood passed away at the age of 92 on October 27, 2021 in West Jordan, Utah. She was born on August 9, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Alfred Edwin Jordan and Hilda Jane Armstrong.
She married Clarence Ray Atwood on October 26, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many Stake and Ward leadership positions in Primary and Relief Society throughout her life including serving as Ward Relief Society President at the age of 83. She loved working with the children in the primary, and her last calling was as primary teacher at the age of 87. She spent many years working in the Cub Scout Program as well. She served as a full-time missionary for the Church to the North Central States Mission which included the Canadian Providence of Manitoba. She also spent many years as the ward Librarian.
She was an accomplished seamstress. She made her own wedding dress, her daughter Vickie’s wedding dress and many clothes for her children, other children in the neighborhood, and often made matching doll clothes. She made expert quality Barbie Doll clothes and often made Money for Christmas by selling them to neighbors.
She had a beautiful singing voice and shared that talent with many people who loved to hear her sing. At the age of 43, she had an illness called Quinsy which caused abscesses all down her trachea and almost took her life. She survived but the damage to her vocal folds was permanent and while she still had a beautiful voice, it was not the same. Where she used to have a four-octave range, she now only had about a two-octave range. She is now singing with the Angels with no limitations.
She is survived by her son: John (Jayne) Atwood, daughters: Vickie-Lyn (Steve) Thomas, Linda (Darrell) Marriott, Elaine (Richard) Noyce, 18 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Ray Jordan, and sister Beth Porter, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by: her loving husband Clarence, daughter Darlene Joy (died during childbirth), and her grandson Clarence.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84123. Another viewing will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 beginning at 9:00 AM with the funeral service following at 10:00 AM at the same location. Interment will follow at 11:00 AM at the same location.
