Veneta Groves

January 11, 1933 — September 5, 2019

Veneta Groves, a long-time resident of White City, passed away from a heart attack on Thursday, September 5, 2019. Viewing will be held Tuesday, September 10th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Lake Hills Mortuary located at 10055 South State Street. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 11th at 11 am, with a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 prior to the funeral.
Vee was born on January 11, 1933 in Pocatello, Idaho to Ernest “Bud” and Emma “Maxine” Luce. She was raised in Rose Park, Utah. She graduated from West High in 1951.
On July 5, 1955 Vee married the love of her life, Eugene Groves, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They spent 64 loving, happy years with each other, and together raised their four children in White City where they had many adventures traveling, camping, boating, fishing, snowmobiling and riding ATV’s.
Vee was a woman of many talents. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who would go to any length to protect her family. She was a very talented seamstress and enjoyed her years working at Sprouse, until they closed. Many years were spent at boutiques where she sold her cross-stitch patterns, ceramics, amazing quilts, and other crafts. She was an amazing cook and shared that skill when she worked as a lunch lady at Union Elementary school for many years. Holidays won’t be the same without her pumpkin and mincemeat pies. Vee had a passion for gardening, could grow just about anything in her garden. There are many fond memories of picking apples, cherries, raspberries and strawberries from the backyard. Her flower garden is gorgeous, and her favorite were her roses. She won several 1st and 2nd prize ribbons from the Salt Lake Home and Garden Show for her ceramics.
In her retirement years she enjoyed going to Wendover and rarely, if ever, came home with less than she left with. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and adored her great-grandchildren. Anytime any of them would come to visit, she made sure to have a full candy dish and sodas in the fridge.
Veneta is survived by her husband, Eugene (Gene); her children Rick (Lori), Darrel, and Sheryl; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters (Charlene and Carol); many nieces and nephews whom she cared greatly for; also a neighborhood of friends
Preceded in death by: both parents; Son (Randy); Brothers (Marvin, Kenneth, and Ronald); Sisters (Lynette) and (Barbara).
The family would like to thank Unified Police and Fire Department, as well as Alta View Hospital for all their assistance and concern.
