Velda Labrum Pearson

July 9, 1930 — April 19, 2022

On April 19, 2022, we lovingly said goodbye for a time to our dear wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Velda Labrum Pearson. Velda passed away at the age of 91 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born July 9, 1930 to Thomas Orren and Pearl Nichols Labrum in Bennion, Utah. She was the 10th of 13 children.  Velda was raised on a sugar beet farm in Bennion, Utah, in a large, combined family where she learned the value of hard work and the necessity of getting along with others.  She graduated from Granite High School. Following high school, she attended Brigham Young University for two years until her father passed away, requiring her to return home to help her mother and begin working. In the spring of 1953, she met the love of her life, Wayne Franklin Pearson. In the remarkably short span of 17 days they courted, fell in love, got engaged, and married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 4, 1953. Immediately thereafter, Wayne was deployed to Korea to serve in the Korean War. They faithfully wrote one another every single day for the 13-month duration of Wayne’s deployment until they were reunited once again. Theirs has been a remarkable love affair spanning nearly 69 years.  Mom and Dad have been a model of commitment, love, and devotion to family and to one another.
Velda’s life was spent devoted to raising a family and providing loving care to extended family members. Her selfless devotion and dedication to her children and family are a hallmark of her life. She faithfully served in many capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and commitment to her sacred covenants are a living legacy to her children and grandchildren. Through the many challenges of her life, she always put her faith and trust in her Heavenly Father and in the Savior. Together with her husband, she served as a full-time missionary in the Oakland California Mission and as a Church-Service Missionary in the Family History Center. We are grateful for the knowledge of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and the assurance that we will someday be together as a family again.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne; five children: Debra Pearson, Kevin W. (June) Pearson, Lynn B. Pearson, Kelly F. (Donna) Pearson, Nancy (David) Leavitt, 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, her brother, O. Kent (Carol) Labrum and sister, Marie Breinholt.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Inspiration Home Health and Hospice, and to Kay Hunter and Rosie Afo. Their loving and compassionate care of our dear mother was a tender mercy in the final weeks of her life.
The funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2022, at the Holladay 8th Ward, 5450 South Holladay Boulevard, Holladay, Utah.
