Vanene Christensen Mcshane

May 30, 1938 — June 29, 2021

May 30, 1938 – June 29, 2021
Vanene was born in Rexburg, ID to Van and Lena Christensen. As a child, her dad worked summers at a sawmill outside of Yellowstone National Park. She had fond memories of those summers playing outside with her brother and sister. When she was ten, the family moved to Salt Lake City and she attended Douglas School, East High School and the University of Utah.
In 1957, Vanene married David McShane. They raised four children and had 62 years together before he passed.
Vanene worked as the manager of P and S Credit Union for 25 years. She felt called to volunteer her time and enjoyed working at the St. Vincent DePaul Dining Hall, Ten Thousand Villages, and Primary Children’s Hospital.
She was a voracious reader and enjoyed traveling. After they retired, she and Dave planned a trip to France and Italy and took classes to learn Italian in anticipation of the trip.
Vanene’s real legacy was her devotion to her family. She supported her husband and children in all that they did and made it known that she was there for them always. She was a champion of her grandchildren. She attended games, performances, science fairs, and fundraisers. If a family member was involved in something, she was there and supported it fully.
Vanene is survived by daughter Erin Day (Kevin), son Sean, son Liam (Jelena), and daughter Kara Hefley (Cody). Grandma Mac will be missed by her ten grandchildren, Adam and Emily Day, Jake and Maggie McShane, Mathew Russell, Logan, Connor, and Duncan McShane, and Mauri and Dylan Hefley. She is also survived by her brother Neil (Doris), sister Carla, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Vanene’s family would like to thank the staff of The Wellington and Brio Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
A celebration of Vanene’s life will be held on Saturday, July 17th at 10:00AM. We will gather at Lake Hills Cemetary, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, UT to share memories and tell stories. At noon, Vanene’s ashes will be interred.
In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation can be made to the Utah Food Bank at www.utahfoodbank.org.
