“Tiny Grandma”
Valerie St. John Yates Luckau, age 83, passed away at home, surrounded by family, on December 24, 2014, in Salt Lake City. She was born on February 13, 1931, in Birmingham, England, to William St. John Yates and Jessie Ward Yates.
Valerie enjoyed school in England. It gave her a great love of reading classics, poetry and scriptures. A woman of high intelligence and many talents, she had the amazing ability to read, write and stop a fight, all while knitting matching sweaters for the family.
She will be remembered and celebrated in the hearts of all who knew her for her quick wit, completing every crossword in pen (while knitting) and sharing her love for the ocean and San Diego with her husband and family.
She is survived by her seven children: Diana (Brian) Howard, Jeffrey (Magali) Luckau, Jonathan Maurice Luckau, Christopher (Michele) Luckau, Teresa (Daniel) Rudert, Shahara (Matthew) Thomas, Charissa (Paul) Warme; 28 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, brother Brian Yates, sisters Glenys Anderson and Pamela Aoyagi. Preceeded in death by her husband, sister Eugenie Budd, parents, and many, many friends.
A special thank you to Silverado hospice for their rapid and indispensable support and help.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 31, 2014, 11 am, at the Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray. A visitation will be held beginning at 10 am prior to the service. Interment will be in the Murray City Cemetery.
