Val taught his last seminar on March 26, 2015. Wracked by end stage Parkinsons Disease, he quietly exited the classroom. Val was born on May 23, 1933 to Royal and Eva Alice Jensen Lund. He grew up in Salt Lake City, graduated from South High School and served a tour of duty in the Korean Conflict.
Upon his return home, he married the love of his life, Jane Ipson-Whitehead, they had 60 years together. Using the GI bill, Val attended the University of Utah, making him forever a Utah Man. After graduating, Val taught Science in both Jordan and Granite School Districts. With the exception of a brief interlude at Hercules Powder in the 60’s, Val taught or administered in public school for 35 years. 1000s of students lives were improved because of his passion for science.
Val was also committed to public service, as a scoutmaster, election judge, missionary for the LDS church, Val also ran for office twice, once as a republican, once as a democrat.
Val leaves behind his wife Jane; sisters, Shirae Curd (Bill), Dorothy Christensen, and Peggy Greely; children, Eva Lund Belliston (Cory), Robert L. Lund (Kuma), Neils C. Lund (Cindy) and Lucy L. Johnson (Charles); his grandchildren John, James and J. Samuel Belliston, Rachel and Kaden Lund, Mason, Austin and Logan Lund, Joshua, Mateo and Jordan Johnson.
Val and Jane would like to thank the good people of the Mountain View 1st Ward, who went above and beyond in caring for them. They are also grateful to Bryce Brady and Valerie Simonsen for their loving care and Silverado Care center, which was their last home.
Finally, his family would ask that in lieu of flowers, a donation in Val’s name be sent to the Jordan School Foundation to support science literacy.
