Emblem

Our loving father, Tony "the Greek" Hazis, passed away peacefully in the home he took such pride in building, surrounded by his loving family on the evening of June 27th, 2024. He was 85 years old. Our hearts are broken to lose him, but we are so grateful that he is now at peace.

He was born on September 16,1938 in Bountiful, Utah, to proud Greek immigrants, Manol Steve Hazis and Liberty Michellog.

Dad was a grateful and patriotic American who served his country as an Army Sergeant from 1961-1967.

He married the love of his life, Althea Mae Foster on April 29, 1962. Together they had 5 children - Kathy (Chris) Squires, Tonya (Greg) Prawitt, Tony (Brooke) Hazis, Cynthea (Andy) Sandoval & Elizabeth (Marcus) Martinez. One of the biggest joys in his life were his 21 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Even in his final days, the children always brought a smile to his face.

Dad was a perfectionist and could fix anything - from cars to homes and everything in between. He unselfishly used his talents to help anyone in need.

He loved his Fords, fishing for the big fish, working in his yard, reading the newspaper, playing poker, all of his animals, and most of all, his family.

He had a soft heart for the underprivileged and those in need, and contributed to many charities throughout his entire life.

Dad was an extremely hard worker. From a very early age, he worked on the family farm with his father. At 13 he got a job as a dishwasher to help support the family and he picked up coal before school each day along the tracks to keep them all warm. He started work at Union Pacific Railroad from the age of 18, working in baggage. He retired as an engineer 44 years later at the age of 62.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren, his brother Steve Hazis, sister Lola (Gary) Lees, and many nieces and nephews.

Proceeded in death by his father and mother, sister Helen (Ron) Hansen, sister Cleo Hazis, mother-in-law Fay Solis, sister and brother-in-law, Aletha & Frank Cruz and best friend Carl Okutani.

May his memory be eternal.
