Tony Abel Chavez

Tony Abel Chavez passed away peacefully at his home in South Jordan, Utah, ironically on Cinco de Mayo.
He was born June 13, 1931 in Saguache, Colorado to Manuel Sabino and Ramona Roybal Chavez. Tony was the third of 13 children. He married M. Nancy Madrid in December 1952. They had three children, Dennis, Debra and Anthony. Nancy passed away in 2009. In 2011 he married Diane Ramos, who was his constant companion.
Tony left home at the age of thirteen to help provide for his family. This was a constant theme throughout his life. He made sure his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and siblings were afforded opportunities that he, himself, didn’t have. He was loyal and generous to a fault. He enjoyed a good meal, a nice glass of wine, golf and talking to new people. Professionally, Tony was a commercial contractor and developer. He started his company in 1959 and built a very successful business.
Tony is survived by his wife, Diane; his children: Dennis (Lori) Chavez, Debra (Kelly) Hunsaker, and Anthony (Traci) Chavez, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, 11 siblings, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy (Honey), his parents and sister, Francis.
We would like to thank all the wonderful people that have helped with Tony and Diane’s care, Canyon Home Care and Hospice, especially Eddie and Heidi, Tim Williams, and their beloved Andres, who passed earlier this year.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Memorial Murray Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah. A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 and again one hour prior to services. Interment at Murray City Cemetery.
