Tomio (Tom) Akimoto, 94, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021. He was born on June 26, 1926 in Winslow, Washington to Fukuichi and Hideko Nonaka Akimoto. He married Frances Akiyama in Sept. of 1956 and has been her devoted and loving husband for 65 years.
Tom graduated in 1944 from Hunt High School in Minidoka, Idaho, and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a kind, loving and generous husband, brother, uncle, and friend to many. In his youth, he was an avid athlete, and enjoyed many sports including judo, football, baseball. He and Fran led a life of service, assisting family, friends, and local organizations in need. And they were active members of the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple. Tom loved to joke around, was always smiling and had a twinkle in his eye. He brightened everyone’s day.
Tom is survived by his wife, Frances, brother, Itsuo Akimoto, niece, Sharon (David) Rothstein, Kathy (Larry) Houle, nephews, Dennis Akimoto and Don Akimoto. He is preceded in death by parents, Fukuichi and Hideko Akimoto; brothers, George (Setsuko) Akimoto, Harding Akimoto, and Tetsuma Akimoto; sisters, Fumio Akimoto, Peace (Bob) Koike and Mamiyo (Leo) Iseki, and niece, Patty (Dan) Albers.
Viewing to be held at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S 900 E, Murray, UT 84121, Saturday May15th, from 10-11am. A graveside service will follow at the SL Cemetery. Masks are requested to be worn.Service Information
