Tom K. Cameron

September 2, 1924 — April 6, 2018

Bro. Tom K. Cameron was born September 2, 1924, the fifth child of 15 children born to John Lee and Mary Tee Benson Cameron in Yantley (now Lisman), Alabama. He passed away peacefully April 6, 2018 at the Avalon West Care Center, Taylorsville, Utah. He was known to family and friends as the Champ and TK. He was a member and served at an early age in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Bro. T.K. Cameron married Addie Lee Ruffin, May 5, 1945 and was married for 42 years until her death July 22, 1987. They moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1946 where they raised their 5 children: 4 boys and 1 girl. While in Cincinnati, Bro. Cameron served as the Usher Board secretary at Alyssinia Baptist Church for 13 years and as a Deacon at Second Baptist Church for 33 years.
Bro. Cameron served in the United States Navy May 27, 1944 and was honorably discharged March 29, 1946. He was an employee/union steward at Hertz & Penske Trucking & Car Corporation for over 40 years.
Deacon Tom Cameron moved to Salt Lake City, UT in 1992 and married Deaconess Elizabeth J. Motuliki on June 27, 1992. He immediately joined Calvary Baptist Church and became a dedicated Deacon, member of the Male Chorus, teacher for Wednesday noon Bible Study and served faithfully until his health prevented him in 2017. His favorite bible verse was Psalms 34. Tom was a very nice and kind man. He was caring, thoughtful and full of wisdom. He loved all sports, watching the evening news and reading the newspaper. He read something every day. He would lift everyone’s spirits with his wonderful sense of humor and always share a word (or a thousand words) about God’s goodness. He never failed to remind us that everything was God’s will and you might as well go along with it!
Preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Earlene Hopkins Stewart and Lillie Mae Raibon Williams; three brothers: Wesley Lee Cameron, Willie Frank Cameron and John Lewis Cameron; son Thomas Karon Cameron, Jr. and stepson Frederick (Rudy) DeBies, Jr.
