Tod Dalton Johnson

July 23, 1947 — February 19, 2020

Tod Dalton Johnson passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on February 19, 2020.
Tod was born on July 23, 1947 to Delbert and Carolyn Johnson in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended East High School, graduating in 1965 where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball and quarterbacked his high school football team to the state championship. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1966 in the Brazil South Mission. Upon his return, he attended and graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and later with a Master of Business Administration. He also pledged Sigma Chi and those relationships lasted a lifetime.
Tod married Kathy Dahn on June 4, 1970 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. They have 3 children, Tod, Leanne, and Karoline and raised their family in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. He has 14 grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He instilled his love of sports and the outdoors in his children and grandchildren. Many hours were spent in his amazing backyard putting, throwing balls, and shooting hoops with his family. The Johnson home was a gathering place for all the extended family, where Tod was the leader and patriarch. He opened his home and gave his time to his family.
Tod was extremely athletic and was a passionate golfer. He spent hours on the golf course with his dad, son, wife, brother, other family members, and friends. Many relationships were built on the golf course and life lessons taught. Tod was a talented snow and water skier. He learned to ski from his wife and loved skiing fresh powder with her and his family. He always had a boat and was known for getting people up on water skis. Tod adored watching his children and grandchildren play sports and rarely missed a game. He was a wonderful coach, coaching his son and daughters in basketball, baseball, and softball.
Tod was very intelligent and had a keen memory. He could memorize long passages of scripture, loved math, and was a walking dictionary. Professionally, Tod was a small business owner, eventually settling in as a financial broker and starting his own leasing company, Franklin Funding.
The cornerstone of Tod’s life was his faith in Jesus Christ. He read the scriptures daily, especially the Book of Mormon. He served in the temple faithfully, where he felt the Savior’s love and stood as a witness for Him. His testimony of Jesus Christ, His resurrection and atonement, was unwavering and has blessed the lives of all who knew him. This gift is most cherished by his family.
Tod leaves behind his wife, Kathy, his 3 children Tod (Annette), Leanne (Brent), Karoline (Kyle), 14 grandchildren, 2 sisters, and many extended family members.
