Tilla Dixon

October 7, 1909 — June 4, 2015

Tilla Ruen Dixon passed away peacefully at the age of 105 at Beehive Homes in West Jordan, Utah on June 4, 2015. She was born October 7, 1909 in Cherry Grove, Minnesota, to Henry and Maria Ruen and was raised in a home with seven siblings. She lived on various farms scattered across Minnesota and South Dakota. She enjoyed being by
herself, loved the outdoors, and was a true Tom Boy who wasn’t afraid to get dirty or even into a little trouble.
At the age of 14 she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and began to understand the power of prayer. While attending high school she met Earl Dixon and after dating for two years they married on October 15, 1929. Over the next 17 years they had eight children, all of which have her energy and zest for life. Sadly, in May of 1947 her
husband became ill and passed away seven months later.
Tilla earned her living working as a maid. While she was poor all of her life, she claimed to be rich because of her children. She dedicated her life to her family and never remarried. At the age of 46 she converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah with her four youngest children. She was a
faithful member and served in many positions over the years.
Tilla walked everywhere. She was always happy, never complained, a hard worker, aware of current events,
enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting, and fishing. She was an avid learner and self-taught musician, card shark, and ate chocolate nearly every day. Tilla was “green” long before it was cool to be, never throwing away anything that could be used for something else.
By the age of 90 she was still healthy and medication free but her short term memory began to fail her. She left her home on Jefferson Street and lived with family for a short time before moving to Beehive Homes where she began and ended the last leg of her journey.
Preceded in death by her husband, Earl Dixon, and loving daughter, Ila, as well as numerous family and friends. She leaves behind seven children, Eugene (Annette), Myron (Lynne), Donna, Bill (Eda), Earl (Jan), John (Carol), and Gloria (Ron). Left to continue her legacy are more than 100 descendants.
The family would like to thank Beehive Homes of West Jordan and Encompass Hospice for the wonderful care
provided to our mom and grandma during the final years of her life.Family and friends may call Monday June 8, 2015 between 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah, 84123. Funeral services will be held at 11:00.
