It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Thon Too Gin at age 96 years. Died on August 11, 2021, in SLC Utah.
He was born on July 3, 1925 in Washington D.C. to Ping York and Tom See Gin. He married Betty-Lou Chee in 1955. Thon was raised in Park City, Utah, graduated Park City High School and served in the Army Air Corp from which he was discharged in 1945.
He attended the University of Utah and graduated with a Ph.D. In Mineralogy in 1953. He served as president of the Utah Geological Association and worked his entire career for US Steel as a Senior Geologist and Research Manager.Thon enjoyed playing golf, travel, investing, visiting with friends and relatives, and working on his house.
He is survived by Cynthia (Rick), Mark (Lori), Greg (Ginger), and eight grandchildren, as well as sisters June, Kim and Ann, and his brother Yuen. He is preceded in death by Betty (wife), Ping York (father), Tom See (mother), sisters Oay, Gam, Joann, Theo, Boe, and brothers Wayne and Gene.
