Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Thomas Larry O’Brien Jr returned to his Heavenly home on April 9, 2014. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on July 22, 1936 to Mabel Kelson & Thomas Larry O’Brien Sr.
Larry married Obdulia “Lula” Flores on Feb 19, 1960 in Logan, UT. They were sealed together for eternity in the Los Angeles LDS temple in Sept 1960. He loved her with all his heart and expressed his love and gratitude to her daily. He was committed to his family and loved each of them very much. He was a very kind-hearted, gentle man whose passion was family, life, history, genealogy, and learning. He was a great listener and always loved a good book. He was a very devoted member of the LDS Church. He served a full time mission in the Texas / New Mexico Spanish-American Mission and continued to serve in various callings throughout his life. He loved the scouting program and was always proud to be an Eagle Scout. He worked at Hill AFB as an Electronics Mechanic and Instructor for 35 years before retiring in 2000. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lula; sons David, Thomas (Dori); daughter Elizabeth Sowell (Todd); six wonderful grandchildren; sister Colleen Sosnowy; many nieces, nephews, and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents and half-sister Darleen.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12 at Fort Lane Stake Center, 1402 North Fort Lane, Layton, UT at 11:00 AM, with visitations from 10:00-10:40. There will be a viewing Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at Deseret Funeral Home 36 E. 700 S., SLC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made at America First Credit Union to the account of Thomas Larry O’Brien Jr., and the donations will be given to Cancer Research.
