THOMAS ‘KEITH’ QUICK

On September 30, a sunny fall Saturday in 1939, a beautiful blue-eyed boy named Thomas Keith Quick was born to Ernest Leroy Quick and Mary Chelta Smith Quick. Although they already had four wonderful boys; Leroy, Don, Max and Lamar, they lovingly welcomed their fifth son into their home in Salt Lake City. After eight years, the boys finally got a little sister to adore, named LeAnn.
Keith learned at an early age the importance of family. His older brothers and younger sister added joy to his adventurous and memorable childhood and thrill-seeking youth. He loved laughing with his brothers, the solitude of the family granary, the challenge of restoring cars and Keith always was dressed sharply. He attended Granite High School in the 1950’s, he loved fast cars, fun, and fashion. He was known for his unique sense of style and self-expression.
He met a beautiful young girl named Patricia Lee McLachlan and they were married on November 25, 1960. Keith and Pat began soon after to raise a family of six children; Lari Lee, Shahri Kay, Wendy Rae, Trisha Ann, Thomas Keith Jr., and Christopher Wallace. Keith built a home on the family land he grew up on, amid the cottonwood trees in Salt Lake City. It was in that home he lived the rest of his life.
Keith was an independent, self-taught, no-nonsense, get it-done kind of man. He was charismatic, friendly, charitable, and good-hearted, he did not like conflict. He was very honest and a man of his word. He was quiet, he didn’t need to say a lot to let you know how he felt. He could be stern when he needed to be, but it was always followed by love. He was an affectionate, gentle and kind husband and father.
Keith never wanted for much. He was a hard-working cement contractor his entire adult life. He was a great provider and worked endlessly to create happiness and memories for his family. His life was simple, genuine and unpretentious. Keith was a skilled hunter and fisherman and passed on this love of the outdoors to his children. The annual family camping trips to Quick’s Cove in the Book Cliffs will forever live in our hearts. He loved nature, he loved the sun warming his bones, and enjoyed the hours he spent nurturing his garden. He loved eating the fresh fruits and vegetables he grew. He loved a good, hot jalapeno and a nice cold “shwill”.
He lived a very healthy life, until he was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2006. He battled it diligently, until it started to take over his body and he finally had enough on Friday April 13, 2018. Keith’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of The Huntsman Cancer Institute who gave so much loving care to Keith over the past 9 years.
Keith was a man of great faith, though he held it privately, he had a profound belief in a God who loves ALL of us and has prepared the way for us each to have Eternal Life. He believed and anticipated a joyful reunion with those he loved who had gone before him. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother Lamar, grandson Jeremy, and numerous dear friends.
He is survived but his adoring wife Patricia, daughters Lari Layton (Chris), Shahri Bryant, Wendy McCardell (Shaun), Trisha Tracy (John Bird), and sons Thomas Keith Quick Jr. and Christopher Wallace Quick (Carie Leigh Haver). Keith will also be deeply missed by his 20 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
